MAT (Management Aptitude Test) is a national level management entrance test conducted by All India Management Association (AIMA) for admission to MBA/PGDM programmes at various management institutes across the country. MAT score is accepted by more than 600 B-schools in the country. The exam pattern of MAT is prescribed by AIMA. MAT examination is held four times in a year – February, May, September, and December. It usually remains the same every year.
The MAT exam pattern is an objective type test. It is held both in offline and online modes. According to the MAT exam pattern, the total duration of all MAT exams is 2 hours and 30 minutes (150 minutes). The application process for the the exam commences two months before the examination date. The admit card of MAT is made available for download online for a given period, for both offline and online modes. Note:
- Each correct answer will be awarded 1 mark and there will be a negative marking of 1/4 mark for each incorrect answer.
- Some of the participating institutes do not take into account the marks scored in the Indian and Global Environment section.
- The maximum marks, which a candidate can score is 200 and the scaled score is given out of 800.
- It is important that the students carry their MAT admit card to the examination hall along with the identity proofs. No candidate was allowed to appear for the exam without the admit card.
MAT Syllabus
Language Comprehension – This section is aimed to judge the comprehending and reading skills of the candidates. The candidates will have to read the passages given and answer the questions based on it.
Mathematical Skills – This section deals with the question based on business Mathematics, Arithmetic, and Geometry. It is important that the candidates thoroughly know their basic formulae and other concepts.
Data Analysis and Sufficiency – This section is to judge the candidates’ analytical and critical thinking. This section brings the questions based on the topics like Direction Sense, Input / Output analysis, Coding and Decoding, Data Arrangement, and Blood Relations.
Intelligence and Critical Reasoning – With an aim to assess the candidates’ logical reasoning ability, this section deals with the topics like Data Arrangement, Blood Relations, Series and Sequences and Critical Reasoning, Direction Sense, Input / Output analysis, Coding and Decoding.
Indian and Global Environment – Knowledge about current affairs is all you need for this section. This section focuses on the domestic and international current affairs and anything related to general awareness could be asked.
