Syllabus & Pattern – IBPS PO

IBPS PO Exam is conducted by Institute of Banking Personnel Selection to select candidates for the post of Probationary Officers for all the Public Sector Banks except SBI. IBPS PO Exam is conducted in three phases: Preliminary Exam, Mains Exam and Interview Process. It is mandatory for a candidate to clear each level of examination to get selected to the post of Probationary Officer in Public Sector Banks. The details of all the three levels are given below:

IBPS PO Preliminary Exam Pattern
The IBPS PO preliminary examination is conducted online and candidates are allocated total duration of 1 hour to complete the preliminary exam. It consists of 3 sections with a total of 100 questions and maximum score of 100 marks. There is negative marking in IBPS PO preliminary exam and 1/ 4 th marks are deducted for each wrong answer for questions attempted by a candidate. It is necessary to clear the cut-off in all 3 sections to qualify for the IBPS PO Main exam. The detailed pattern is given below:

IBPS PO Prelims Exam Syllabus

English Language: Reading Comprehension, Cloze Test, Para jumbles, Miscellaneous, Fill in the blanks, Multiple Meaning/Error Spotting, Paragraph Completion.
Quantitative Ability: Simplification, Profit & Loss, Mixtures & Allegations, Simple Interest & Compound Interest & Surds & Indices, Work & Time, Time & Distance, Mensuration – Cylinder, Cone, Sphere, Data Interpretation, Ratio & Proportion, Percentage, Number Systems, Sequence & Series, Permutation, Combination &Probability
Reasoning Ability: Logical Reasoning, Alphanumeric Series, Ranking/Direction/Alphabet Test, Data Sufficiency, Coded Inequalities, Seating Arrangement, Puzzle, Tabulation, Syllogism, Blood Relations, Input Output, Coding Decoding.

IBPS PO Mains Exam Pattern
IBPS PO Mains Exam has got quite a number of changes as compared to previous years. These changes are detailed below:
Introduction of Descriptive Paper: Just like SBI PO Exam, IBPS introduced Descriptive Paper in its Mains Examination where candidates will be judged on their written skills. An essay and a letter will be given to candidates to write that will constitute of 25 marks and that has to be completed in a time span of 30 minutes.
The overall time allotted for each section has been changed resulting in a change in overall time allotted for IBPS PO Mains Exam from 140 minutes to 180 minutes.
Reasoning section has been combined with Computer Aptitude section and this entire section will contain 45 questions of a total of 60 marks.
The detailed pattern for IBPS PO Mains is given below

Penalty for Wrong Answers: 0.25 or 1/4 th marks will be deducted for every question attempted wrong by a candidate in IBPS PO Mains Exam. There will be no deduction of marks for a question left blank/unattempted by a candidate.

IBPS PO Interview Process
Candidates who qualify the Mains Exam are finally called for the Interview Process by IBPS. The Interview Process will constitute of 100 marks and the minimum marks for qualifying this round will be 40% which is reduced to 35% for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/PWD categories.

Final Selection
The final selection of the candidate to the post of Probationary Officer will be made by taking into consideration the cumulative score of Mains Exam and the Interview Process. The weightage of both these phases of examination will be in the ratio 80:20 respectively. A merit list will be generated after the Interview Process of IBPS PO 2018 Exam has been conducted. Candidates who make it to the list will be thus offered the joining letter by the Bank of their choice.

Reasoning Ability: Verbal Reasoning, Syllogism, Circular Seating Arrangement, Linear Seating Arrangement, Double Lineup, Scheduling, Input Output, Blood Relations, Directions and Distances, Ordering and Ranking, Data Sufficiency, Coding and Decoding, Coded Inequalities.
Computer Aptitude: Computer Fundamentals, Computer Terminologies, Internet, Memory, Keyboard Shortcuts, Computer Abbreviation, Microsoft Office, Computer Hardware, Computer Software, Operating System, Networking.

General Awareness: General Knowledge, Financial Awareness, Current Affairs & Economy, Indian Banking System, Government policies related to Banking, Finance and Economy.

English Language: Reading Comprehension, Vocabulary, Grammar, Verbal Ability.
