Syllabus & Pattern – SBI Clerk

SBI Clerk Exam is held by SBI or State Bank of India to recruit candidates for Clerical Cadre in its different branches across the country. SBI Clerk is one of the most sought after bank exams in the country and thousands of candidates appear in this exam every year.

SBI Clerks (also known as Junior Associates) are responsible for all the client interactions and related operations and are designated as cashiers, depositors and other posts that form the face of a SBI Bank branch. The selection procedure of SBI Clerk Recruitment consists of three different stages as mentioned below:
1. Preliminary Exam
2. Main Exam
3. Test of Official and/or Local Language
We are providing information related to SBI Clerk Exam Pattern, Syllabus etc. in the following sections.

SBI Clerk Preliminary Exam Pattern
From 2018, sectional time limits have been introduced in the SBI Clerk Prelims Exam and it will be comprised of three sections consisting of total 100 marks. The following table reveals the complete details of the prelims exam pattern

Note:

  • There is negative marking for 1/4th mark for each wrong answer. 
  • There is no minimum qualifying marks for individual subject as well as for aggregate (overall) score.
  • The Prelims exam is bilingual i.e available in both English and Hindi, except for the English section.
  • There will be no deduction of marks for a question ‘left blank/not attempted’ by a candidate.
  • There will be no sectional cut offs.
  • Adequate number of candidates in each category as decided by the Bank will be shortlisted for the Mains Exam. Ratio of candidates selected for SBI Clerk Mains is generally 1:10.
  • The overall score of the Prelims examination will be considered for selecting candidates for Mains Exam.

SBI Clerk Prelims Syllabus
English Language: Reading Comprehension, Spelling, Cloze Test, Para jumbles, Miscellaneous, Fill in the blanks, Multiple Meaning/Error Spotting, Paragraph Completion.

Quantitative Ability: Number Systems, Simplification, Surds & Indices, Average, Percentage, Ratio & Proportion, Profit & Loss, Mixtures & Allegations, Simple Interest & Compound Interest, Time & Work, Time & Distance, Mensuration, Data Sufficiency, Data Interpretation, Sequence & Series, Permutation, Combination & Probability
Reasoning Ability: Logical Reasoning, Alphanumeric Series, Ranking/Direction/Alphabet Test, Data Sufficiency, Coded Inequalities, Seating Arrangement, Puzzle, Tabulation, Syllogisms, Blood Relations, Input Output, Coding Decoding, Double Line Up, Grouping and Selection, Scheduling etc.

SBI Clerk Mains Exam Pattern
SBI Clerk Mains Exam is conducted online and comprises of 4 sections. The detailed pattern is given below:

Note:

  • The time allotted to be complete the paper is 2 hours 40 minutes.
  • There will be negative marking for wrong answers (1/4th mark will be deducted).
  • There will be no deduction of marks for a question ‘left blank/not attempted’ by a candidate.
  • The online test will be bilingual, available in both English and Hindi language except for the English section.
  • No minimum marks for individual sections are prescribed.
  • Local Language Test: If you have studied the official (local) language at 10th level and have proof as a certificate, you will not be subject to an additional Language Test. If not so, you will be required to take a language test which will be conducted after provisional selection but before joining.

Final Selection
Final merit list will be prepared based on the marks obtained in the SBI Clerk Main exam. The marks obtained in prelims exam will not be added towards the final selection. Merit List will be drawn state wise & category wise

SBI Clerk Mains Syllabus

Quantitative Aptitude: Number System, Simplification, Average, Percentage, Ratio and Proportion, Partnerships, Mixture and Allegations, Simple & Compound Interest, Problems of Ages, Profit and Loss, Number Series, Speed, Distance and Time, Time and Work, Stocks & Shares, Calendar, Clocks, Data Sufficiency, Data Interpretation, Quadratic Equation, Linear Equation, Mensuration and Geometry, Permutation and Combination, Probability.
Reasoning Ability: Verbal Reasoning, Syllogism, Circular Seating Arrangement, Linear Seating Arrangement, Double Lineup, Scheduling, Machine Input Output, Blood Relations, Directions and Distances, Ordering and Ranking, Data Sufficiency, Coding and Decoding, Coded Inequalities.
Computer Aptitude: Computer Fundamentals, Computer Terminologies, Internet, Memory, Keyboard Shortcuts, Computer Abbreviation, Microsoft Office, Computer Hardware, Computer Software, Operating System, Networking.
General Awareness: Static GK (History, Geography, Country, Capital, Ministers, Social, Cultural, National and International Organizations, Famous Personalities, Entertainment etc.),  Banking & Financial Awareness, Current Affairs, Indian Banking System, Government policies and schemes related to Banking, Finance and Economy etc.
English Language: Reading Comprehension, Vocabulary, Grammar, Verbal Ability.
