Syllabus & Pattern – SBI PO

SBI PO exam is conducted by State Bank of India to select eligible candidates to the post of Probationary Officer. SBI PO is one of the most coveted jobs in Banking industry and a dream career for young students in India. The SBI PO selection process consists of 3 stages. Two written examinations namely SBI PO Prelims and SBI PO Mains are conducted online, followed by a GD/Interview round. In the next few sections we are providing the details for each stage.

SBI PO Preliminary Exam Pattern
The SBI PO preliminary examination is conducted online and candidates are allocated total duration of 1 hour to complete the preliminary exam. It consists of 3 sections with a total of 100 questions and maximum score of 100 marks. There is negative marking in SBI PO preliminary exam and 1/ 4 th marks are deducted for each wrong answer for questions attempted by a candidate. It is necessary to clear the cut-off in all 3 sections to qualify for the SBI PO Main exam. The detailed pattern is given below:

There will be no deduction of marks for a question ‘left blank/not attempted’ by a candidate. There will be no sectional cut offs. The overall score of the Prelims examination will be considered for selecting candidates for Mains Exam. Ratio of candidates selected for SBI PO Mains is generally 1:10.

SBI PO Prelims Syllabus
English Language: Reading Comprehension, Cloze Test, Para jumbles, Miscellaneous, Fill in the blanks, Multiple Meaning/Error Spotting, Paragraph Completion.

Quantitative Ability: Simplification, Profit & Loss, Mixtures & Allegations, Simple Interest & Compound Interest & Surds & Indices, Work & Time, Time & Distance, Mensuration – Cylinder, Cone, Sphere, Data Interpretation, Ratio & Proportion, Percentage, Number Systems, Sequence & Series, Permutation, Combination & Probability
Reasoning Ability: Logical Reasoning, Alphanumeric Series, Ranking/Direction/Alphabet Test, Data Sufficiency, Coded Inequalities, Seating Arrangement, Puzzle, Tabulation, Syllogism, Blood Relations, Input Output, Coding Decoding.

SBI PO Mains Exam Pattern
SBI PO Mains Exam will be conducted is conducted online and comprises of 4 sections. The detailed pattern for SBI PO Mains is given below

Penalty for Wrong Answers: 0.25 or 1/4 th marks will be deducted for every question attempted wrong by a candidate in SBI PO Mains Exam. There will be no deduction of marks for a question ‘left blank/not attempted’ by a candidate.
There will be no sectional cut off in Mains as well.
The time allotted to be complete the paper is 3 hours.
Note: The descriptive paper will be of 30 minutes duration with 50 marks assigned to the test of English Language. You will be tested on Letter Writing & Essay in the descriptive paper and you must pass in the Descriptive Test. Descriptive Test paper of only those candidates will be evaluated who have scored qualifying marks in the Objective Tests and are placed adequately high as per total marks in Objective Test.

SBI PO Interview Process
Besides the preliminary exam and the mains exam, an interview process is also conducted for candidates who qualify the first two phases of SBI PO exam. The final merit list is made on the basis of marks obtained by a candidate in his/ her mains exam and interview process. Aggregate marks of candidates qualifying in both Objective and Descriptive Tests will be arranged in descending order in each category. The selected candidates will be called for the Group Discussion and Interview. The table below summarizes the breakup of a total of 50 marks for GD and Interview

Final Selection
The final selection of the candidate to the post of Probationary Officer will be made by taking into consideration the cumulative score of Mains Exam and the Interview Process. A merit list will be generated after the Interview Process of SBI PO Exam has been conducted. Candidates who make it to the list will be thus offered the joining letter by the Bank. The details of weightage given to the three stages of selection process are shown in the following table:

Reasoning Ability: Verbal Reasoning, Syllogism, Circular Seating Arrangement, Linear Seating Arrangement, Double Lineup, Scheduling, Input Output, Blood Relations, Directions and Distances, Ordering and Ranking, Data Sufficiency, Coding and Decoding, Coded Inequalities.
Computer Aptitude: Computer Fundamentals, Computer Terminologies, Internet, Memory, Keyboard Shortcuts, Computer Abbreviation, Microsoft Office, Computer Hardware, Computer Software, Operating System, Networking.
General Awareness: General Knowledge, Financial Awareness, Current Affairs & Economy, Indian Banking System, Government policies related to Banking, Finance and Economy.
